We are all 100 Days Smarter!

Tuesday was the 100th day of school.  In order to celebrate the fact that we are 100 days older and smarter, we did some fun 100th day centers.  At one center the kids estimated and then counted how many times they could do all different activities in 100 seconds.

They also got the number 100 and used their creativity to turn it into any type of picture.  They came out great!  Check out some of them here:

"My 100 is my dad."
"My 100 is a butterfly."

"My 100 is a horse."
"My 100 is a car."
They also made a "gum-ball machine" by dabbing 10 dots of 10 different colors on a paper plate.  At a different center they had to read and write the room.  They had to read and write 100 words!
Here is Mia looking official with her clipboard!

Since we were so busy we did not get a chance to finish everything.   Some of the children were able to finish throughout the day, but others took home some fun activities (the 100 chart, the 100 seconds activity, and the 100 read/write words).  They know that if they finish any of these at home they can bring them back for a lucky bucket ticket!  That's a chance to earn 3 tickets!  How lucky!

Happy Valentine's Day!

In our class we have been talking about different ways to show love to your friends.  In order to celebrate both Valentine's Day and the 100th day of school at the same time, we created this fun bulletin board...
Take a look at what some of our little friends said...
Play with them if they have nobody to play with.

A cute little letter... Dear Aidan, I love you being my friend.  Your friend, Liam

Be friendly.
Sometimes we don't need any words at all.  Sometimes it's as simple as giving a friend your heart.

And of course... Don't punch.  Punching is definitely NOT
a way to show your friends that you love them. :)

Here are some pictures of our friends showing love:

Aren't they precious?!

In case there is a snow day tomorrow, please remind your child that he/she will still get to show their friends that they love them by handing out Valentine's cards... just after the February Break!

Have a great February Vacation!!  Happy Valentine's Day!!!

It's February!!

Happy February!

We have many exciting plans in February.  Please click on the link below to view the February calendar.

February Calendar

Our class will be getting a new student next week.  We have talked as a class about helping a new friend feel comfortable and welcome within the classroom and school.  If you could reinforce this at home that would be great!

Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) News!

I was so excited to receive so many PARP forms this morning!  Keep them coming!

The classroom that reads the most will win a special prize.  We would love to be the winner!

I know that all of the students read at home, as well as in school.  Be sure to record those minutes!

If you are not sure what form I am talking about, see the pictures below.  If you need another sheet, please contact me.

*If your child was absent today, he/she can send in the form on Monday.

Brrr! It's Cold Outside!

It's been VERY cold outside lately.  We have been learning about Polar regions.  Here is our Arctic bulletin board.  Take a look at all of those cute penguins.  They are all different "shapes" and sizes :)

All of the students wrote about the Arctic in their journals.  They did a fabulous job with the editing and revising process.  In the computer lab they typed their final draft.  Here are a few examples!

Volunteer Needed!

Dear parents (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc),

I am in need of 1 volunteer for Junior Achievement.  The volunteer would be in charge of teaching 4-6 social studies lessons to the class.  The program will run for 4-6 weeks (1 lesson a week) in March or April and each lesson is about a half hour long.  All the materials and planning ideas will be provided, but you will be responsible for any extra planning.  Suzi Goldman has been a Junior Achievement volunteer in the past, so if you are considering it, but have more questions you can contact her.  Of course, you can always contact me with questions as well.  If you know you are interested, please let me know and we can find some times that work in your schedule (I am very flexible!)

Thanks!
Mrs. Miakisz
